Find the adjutant at the Valley of Ashes Guidepost and take the assignment concerning the missing scouts.

Follow Chapter 2 through The Climb. The Pistol is a main-route pickup, not a reward for completing this quest.

At the top of the lift, shoot the two blocking nodes. Ride down once the route works.

Watch the middle of the lift shaft for the cave on the left. Enter the side route and use Fire to clear the vines.

Inspect the scouts’ remains and collect their letter. Return to the adjutant to resolve the report.
